After a Long Day, The Rehearsal : Alamaa Tea & Snacks

For the last few days we have been wrecking our brains over which place we should visit first and get our journey off to a grand opening. So when Srikanth suggested that that we should put our visit to the nearby tea shop on the blog Bharath and I were not too committal at first. But then we thought, why not? Can you think of Hyderabad without 'Irani Chai'. The city has apparently over 20K tea joints!! We call this the beverage before the big meal. We name this journey 'The Rehearsal'.

The setup of Alaama is not of a typical Irani joint that you get to see in movies and are so familiar to us (We will cover one of those places too in future :)). But it is quite decent and in respect of cleanliness it is notch better than the neighborhood tea shops. We ordered chai and Osmania biscuits. It is a killer combo (Supposedly Irani Chai having ginger kills your common cold!). The biscuit apparently got its name from the Nizam of Hyderabad Mir Osman Ali Khan though there is debate about its origins. Osmania is unique in its taste and is a must have with chai. It goes without saying that we came out of Alaama rejuvenated.

Watch for this space people we are just getting started!

Who We Are and What Is This All About?

Hi !!

This is our first post in this blog. So, who are we? We are a bunch of young guys living far away from home at Hyderabad working our you know what off through the week, partying and enjoying our weekends, always trying to pursue our interests some way or the other. Individually we are quite different from each other but the common thread that binds us tightly is our love for FOOD. I welcome you all to the journey that we are about to undertake to explore the cuisines of the city of Nawabs, the land of the Charminar; Hyderabad. Our team is truly a pan Indian one.

Lets have a quick round of introduction of the crew, what say!

Introducing first, the guy we call Commander, our very own chellam Srikanth. Passionate about sports, Sri is stuck with a software job currently. He has an opinion on everything, believe me, everything. Our man is currently preparing for CAT. We wish him good luck!

Favorite dish- Steamy Dosa and hot filter coffee....Now why are we not surprised!!

P.S: He has a thing for Malaika Arora. ;D

Then comes SJ, Sylvian Jonathan. He is from Pondicherry. Sylvian wants to go back to his village one day..err..mistake, I meant to his native place one day and open up a restaurant. Though he calls himself a foodie, he can stay without food for quite a long period of time. Some foodie huh!! All jokes apart, SJ is a rockstar, be it college or his workplace.

Favorite dish- Well made Sizzlers!! anyday

Not to be left behind is our next team man J.Bharath Prasanna. His friends call him Desi coz he believes in resorting to desigiri whenever he can. He waits for an opportunity. Bharath comes from India's southernmost point (no, not Kanyakumari!). I must say his homeland is truly amazing abounding in natural beauty. Mr. Prasanna is a reserved guy and keeps a lot to himself.

Favorite dish- hyderabadi Biriyani. Just look at him

Now, the real foodie of the group Sandesh aka DJ Desh. Lately, he gets noticed for his tattoos. I believe he uses his tattoos as a distraction for others so that he is not disturbed in his core job- eating lots n lots of food. Trust me, this man can eat. Besides being a basketball player and a gaming addict, Mr. Nayak is on the verge of becoming a certified DJ. He's quite a multi-tasker (He can do multi tasking when he eats too!).

Favorite dish- Rice and Dal/Sambar

And last but not the least urs truly Saikat Bose. My Hyd nickname is Bosae, courtesy Bharath. My frens back home better know me as Shaka. I am itching to write so many great things about me. But as I don't like to beat my own drums lets keep this agenda aside for the time being.

Favorite dish- Mutton Biryani and chaap, Kolkata ishtyle.

Watch out for this space people. The Hyderabad Foodies will soon be back with their main voyage on the search of food in the streets of Hyderabad.
